What the app keeps for your goats
Each goat has its own record with the number the app assigns, name, breed, sex, date of birth and category. Everything that happens to it is recorded from there and stays in its history.
- Milk, for the farm or per goat. The quick log takes the litres in a few seconds and asks who they are for: the whole farm, one goat or one group. In Products you see today’s total and the last 7 days; monthly and 3-month totals are on the Pro plan.
- Cheese and meat. You note the kilos of cheese you make and the kilos of meat you sell, each with its own total.
- Weights and daily gain. You note the weight of the goat or the kid and the app works out the daily gain and the growth curve. On the Pro plan it projects when the animal will reach 35 kg, the app’s reference weight.
- Matings and kiddings. You record heat, mating or insemination, the pregnancy check and the kidding with the kid’s weight. The expected kidding date is worked out for you.
- Health with withdrawal periods. Vaccines, deworming and treatments with product, batch, dose and vet. If the product has a withdrawal period, the app counts the days for milk and for meat.
- Accounts per goat or per group. You log each sale of milk or cheese, feed purchase or vet bill with a category and a description, and assign it to the whole farm, to one goat or to one group. Selling a goat books the income to that goat, and on the Pro plan the cost of each treatment is booked as an expense.
Animals, weights, production, accounts, assigning them to a goat or a group, and up to 2 groups are on the free plan. The balance per animal and per group, breeding records, health records with withdrawal periods and weight projections are part of the Pro plan.
Goats in groups
Goats are sorted into groups, as they are in the pen: milking does, dry does, kids, bucks. On the Pro plan each group has its weight analytics, so you see whether the kids are growing as they should, and its income, expenses and balance, with its production over the last 30 days. Each goat you register counts toward the free plan’s limit of 50 animals. A group counted by quantity, such as the season’s kids, keeps only a running total and does not count toward that limit, but it does count toward the 2 groups.
A goat eats about 3.5 % of its live weight in dry matter a day. To work out the numbers for your group use the feed calculator, and for kidding dates the due date calculator.
