What the app keeps for your sheep

Each sheep has its own record with the number the app assigns (for example OVI-01), name, breed, sex, date of birth and category. Everything that happens to it is recorded from there and stays in its history.

  • Weights and daily gain. You note the weight of the ewe or the lamb and the app works out the daily gain between weighings and the growth curve. On the Pro plan it estimates when the animal will reach 40 kg.
  • Wool, meat, milk and cheese. The quick log takes kilos of wool, kilos of meat, litres of milk or kilos of cheese in a few seconds, for the whole farm, one sheep or one group. In Products you see today’s total and the last 7 days; monthly and 3-month totals are on the Pro plan.
  • Matings and lambings. You record heat, mating or insemination, the pregnancy check and the lambing with the lamb’s weight. The expected lambing date is worked out for you; to get a notification, create a reminder for that date.
  • Health with withdrawal periods. Vaccines, deworming and treatments with product, batch, dose and vet. If the product has a withdrawal period, the app counts the days for milk and for meat.
  • Accounts per animal or per group. You log each sale, feed purchase or vet bill with a category and a description, and assign it to the whole farm, to one animal or to one group. Selling an animal books the income to that animal, and on the Pro plan the cost of each treatment is booked as an expense.

Animals, weights, production, accounts, assigning them to an animal or a group, and up to 2 groups are on the free plan. Monthly production totals, the balance per animal and per group, breeding records, health records with withdrawal periods and weight projections are part of the Pro plan.

The flock in groups

Sheep are sorted into groups, as they are out on the land: breeding ewes, milking ewes, fattening lambs, hoggets. On the Pro plan each group has its weight analytics, so you see whether the fattening lambs are putting on weight. Wool, milk and money can be logged to each group too, and on the Pro plan each group’s record shows its income, expenses and balance and its production over the last 30 days. That way you see what the milking ewes bring in and what the fattening lambs cost.

A group can also be counted by quantity instead of animal by animal: a running total that you update with births, purchases, deaths, sales, culls and adjustments. Animals in a quantity group do not count toward the free plan’s limit of 50 animals, but the group does count toward its 2 groups, and weight analytics need registered animals.

To plan ahead, use the due date calculator, the feed calculator and the stocking rate calculator to find out how many sheep your pasture can carry.

Record in the field, sync when you reopen it. For now, wait for the app to finish syncing before you close it. How it works today.

Common questions

Can I record the wool from shearing?
Yes. In the quick log you note the kilos of wool from the shearing for the whole farm, or for each sheep or group if you want to compare fleeces. On the free plan you see today's total and the last 7 days; monthly and 3-month totals are on the Pro plan.
Does the app remind me about lambings?
On the Pro plan, when you record the mating the app works out the expected lambing date using 147 days of gestation. It does not remind you on its own: create a reminder for that date and the notification reaches your phone.
How much does a sheep eat a day?
As a guide, about 3 % of its live weight in dry matter. A 60 kg ewe eats about 1.8 kg of dry matter a day. The feed calculator converts that into fresh grass.
Is it useful if I make sheep's cheese?
Yes. You log the litres of milk and, separately, the kilos of cheese you make. With costs and sales in your accounts, each with a category and a description, you can see whether the cheese pays.
