Why

We are starting with Spanish-speaking Latin America: almost seven million farms with livestock, and not one app that speaks their language, covers their animals and holds up where coverage is poor. Ganaderos is for any producer, in any country. This is what we found when we looked at the market, and what we decided to do about it.

A field notebook open on a wooden table, with a pencil, a mug and a hat.

The gap

The livestock apps that exist are single species, or in one language only, or desktop, or all three. The closest one, BovControl, is cattle only and was born in Portuguese. Tambo is dairy only and Argentina only. Then there is a layer of regional apps that one developer ships, maintains for a year and abandons.

Nobody puts together the four things a mixed farm needs: several species, real production (milk, eggs, weight, wool), books and holding up where coverage is poor.

Who we make it for

You keep between ten and two hundred animals, often of several species. You sell at the local market or to a buyer you trust. You use a basic Android phone and sort most things out on WhatsApp. Today the books are in a notebook, or in your head.

You are not looking for a technology product. You want to know whether the lot of steers is gaining or losing, and not to miss the next vaccination.

What we decided

  • Several species in one app. All fourteen fit without switching apps, because almost no farm keeps only cattle.
  • Organised by purpose. Dairy, beef and breeding, which is how people think about a herd.
  • Clear books. Today the app keeps the farm's income, expenses and profit, month by month, and on Pro the balance of every animal and every group, something few livestock apps do well.
  • Made for the field. Between 30 and 40 per cent of the countryside has no stable coverage, and the app is built with that in mind. For now, wait for the app to finish syncing before you close it. How it works today.
  • In the language of whoever uses it. The app is in Spanish and English, and measures in kilos, litres and hectares.

Where we are going

Mexico first, for its size and its tradition of mixed farms. Then Colombia and Argentina, and after that Peru, Ecuador and Central America. That is the order in which we go looking for producers, not a limit: the app can be used in any country. Further out we want to connect with each country's traceability systems (SINIIGA, ICA, SENASA), but we do not put a date on what we have not started.

What we do not publish here

Revenue projections and sponsorship rates are not on this page. If you are a co-op, a feed brand or a public programme, write to us and we will show them to you.

Hear when it opens.

The app is not in the stores yet. Leave your email and I will write to you the day it is, plus what we learn from the farms already testing it.

Only about Ganaderos. No spam, and you can unsubscribe from any email.
